General Advice: Physical Space and Advance Preparation

Physical Space:

Each child needs a work space roughly the size of a placemat.

This space might be on a countertop or stable folding table at a comfortable working height; avoid allowing children to stand on chairs or stools.

The available workspace should dictate the number of guests you can comfortably and safely accommodate.

Use disposable tablecloths to protect tables and contain messes.

Advance Preparation:

At least 24 hours in advance confirm number of guests and any allergies or food sensitivities they may have
Shop using the shopping lists as your guide, purchasing appropriate amounts for the number of guests who have rsvp'd + 3, for demonstration, surprise guests and the occasional accidents (an overzealous pizza maker drops her dough on the floor).

Safe, light, easy to pass containers are necessary so kids can share easily. Plastic bowls, Tupper/Gladware containers or Styrofoam bowls are especially helpful and make for easy clean up.

Assemble all the utensils and supplies you'll need, including paper chef hats and disposable aprons.
